Refugee camps are tough places for adult refugees to be in, but can you imagine how much children suffer in these environments? Children are most vulnerable in these camps as they’ve been taken away from their families, friends, and homes. Most importantly, they are forced to live and adapt to an unusual environment. Here is the story of a child Syrian refugee:
Salim is a young two year old boy, who is at a refugee camp near the Syrian border. Temperatures in this area drop below zero and Salim barely has any clothes to protect him from these harsh weathers. The cold days are long, and the nights are even longer. He has to endure the freezing temperatures both during both day and night. He has nothing to protect him from the cold, not even a blanket. He is one of the children who are trying to survive through the winter in the camp. These children are in desperate need of blankets, clothes, and mainly food.
Luckily, programs like Save the Children provide refugee children with their basic needs, such as clothes, food, and blankets to keep them warm. It is also found that they help children in refugee camps who have had some sort of past trauma or have a hard time dealing with certain tragedies. With even more cooperation and help, children like Salim can survive cold winters with necessary supplies!
